Mozilla today announced two developer preview phones running on its upcoming mobile operating system, the Firefox OS. These handsets will be available to the developers to develop and test apps on a real machine. Spanish telecom company Geeksphone and Telefonica are working on these devices, which should be available by the next month.
The hardware specifications of Firefox OS preview phones, Keon and Peak, are also announced: Keon runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 1GHz processor and has 3.5″ HVGA Multitouch screen. Other features of Keon are 3 MP camera, 4GB ROM, 512 MB RAM, MicroSD support for expandable memory, Wifi, Light and proximity Sensor, G-Sensor, GPS, MicroUSB, 1580 mAh battery.
Peak runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 1.2GHz x2 processor, and has 4.3″ qHD IPS Multitouch screen. It has 1800 mAh battery, 8 MP main camera with 2 MP front camera, 4 GB ROM and 512 MB RAM.
Other details like shipping countries and price are not provided by Mozilla, but Geeksphone has promised to reveal more information in next weeks.
Moreover, Mozilla has plans to release commercial Firefox OS handsets in Brazil with Telefonica, and in Europe with ZTE.
