Mozilla Not To Hide Version Number Information

Earlier this week, as we reported,  Mozilla’s Asa Dotzler announced plans to hide Firefox’s version number from the ‘About Firefox’ window and if any one needs, it will be available on about:support page. It became a controversial topic among the Firefox enthusiasts as the people found it confusing.

Finally, Alex Faaborg of Mozilla UI team, announced in a groups thread that the Mozilla has dumped its version number removal plans and the bug where all this thing started has been marked as ‘Resolved and invalid’. On this issue, Mozilla received both constructive suggestions as well as personal attacks targeting mainly Asa Dotzler.

As Firefox has moved on a rapid release cycle and several actions has been taken to avoid the version number conflicts, the version number itself has become less important. The intention behind hiding version number was to avoid the confusion among the end users over the version numbers.
