Mozilla To Launch Open Gaming Engine, Prototype Game Available

Mozilla Labs team is working on an open gaming engine project, Paladin. A draft on Mozilla Wiki describes this project as, “Paladin is a project by the Mozilla Labs community to create the best gaming technology available for the open web. Paladin sits at the intersection of 3D gaming, JavaScript framework and library development, and the browser.”.

Under the Paladin project, Mozilla developers are working on Gladius game engine and several APIs. RescueFox, the first prototype game built on Gladius, is now available for testing and project realization.

The RescueFox can be played easily in recent versions of Firefox. This game can be described as, “Don’t you hate it when you’re traveling at light speed, and your pet space fox escapes to an asteroid belt? You have an invisible fox detector to figure out where she is, and you can use a tractor beam that pulls you from asteroid to asteroid to the fox herself.  And you’ve got about 90 seconds until she runs out of air.”. This game prototype can be played online here.
