Internet Explorer 8 has just completed three years and since its launch in 2009, it is among the top browser versions worldwide. According to the latest estimations of StatCounter.com, IE8 has around 16% market share worldwide and over 18% in USA. In another words, IE8 is the second most popular browser version on the planet after Google Chrome 17.
The worst thing about IE8 is that it is the last version of Internet Explorer supported on Windows XP. Latest stable version of IE, the IE9, is not available for WinXP platform which is currently being used by every third computer user in the world. This is the main reason behind the large user base of IE8. These 16% internet users have a non-modern browser, which is going to become headache of web developers soon – just like the IE6. Thankfully, latest versions of other major browsers including Firefox, Chrome and Opera support Windows XP but this is not the solution.
