We have already reported about the Mozilla’s decision to work on Firefox for ARMv6-based Android devices. As ARMv6-based Android handsets are currently very popular, Firefox mobile team sees lots of potential in this platform. Recently, Mozilla developers released a preview build for testing purpose. Here is a short video showing up Firefox on Samsung Galaxy Ace (running on Android 2.3.7 stock ROM):
This preview build can be downloaded from here (link to APK file) which is based on Firefox 13 platform. Although, Mozilla has not declared any final release date, we hope to see the ARMv6 version with the Firefox 13 or Firefox 14 release.
We found Firefox running smoothly on our Galaxy Ace. Although, the build-in Sync is not working properly at the moment and the application is consuming lots of system resources (see the screenshot above), we are very optimistic about the future of Firefox on ARMv6-based devices.
