Read It Later has managed to raise $2.5 million in funding from big names including Google Ventures, and now has big plans to expand. Nate Weiner, the person behind this popular link management utility, announced this in a blog post. Nate has been the only employee of the company for long, but now Read It Later team has five members and the company is going to shift to its first office in San Francisco soon.
Nate says, "As the product has grown, it had become increasingly difficult to continue to do all of this on my own. I had a long roadmap and I wasn’t moving as fast as I (or the users) wanted. [...] I’m thrilled to announce today that Read It Later has not only grown from a team of 1 to a team of 5 but has also raised $2.5 million in funding from Foundation Capital, Baseline Ventures, Founder Collective, Google Ventures, and a number of other insanely supportive investors.".
Read It Later vs Instapaper
We, at Browser Fame, are dedicated Read It Later users now. In past, we were using Instapaper because of the simplicity of the product. But, we were extremely disappointed with Instapaper’s take on Android and other platforms, as it is totally iOS centric tool. It seems that Mr. Marco Arment has no interest in users of the other platforms.
The good thing about Read It Later is its support for almost all leading platforms and browsers. Read It Later offers ‘official’ browser add-ons for all major browsers, free and premium apps for Android and other platforms. This may be a prime reason behind its success.
