Webian Shell is a full screen web browser built on the Chromeless project of Mozilla. Just to remind, Chromeless project is the prototype for future browsers with the aim to renovate browser user interface using standard web technologies. Webian Shell is based on Chromeless, and can serve as the perfect solution for the devices which don’t require a desktop screen.
The Webian is a visionary project to develop an operating system dedicated to hosting and using web applications built on the principles of openness and ease of use, utilising open web standards and open source software.
The concept behind Webian Shell appears to be similar to that of the Chrome OS, but follows a different approach. Although, the Webian Shell is in its early stage.
Ben Francis, the developer behind Webian, has a lot of plans for the future including features like Hardware control and Home screens. Shell will also include Mozilla’s another prototype: Open Web Apps. The early release of Webian Shell can be downloaded from here for Windows, Linux and Mac platforms.
